Today I am grateful for a surprise visit. Our son, Matt asked if he could come over with his girls to watch the Eagles play today. Sure! Who doesn’t want to see the kid and a couple of grandkids?
Anja, the senior in high school had her own car, which is something it will take me a while to get used to. Wasn’t she six months old like her baby sister only a few years ago? Speaking of the baby. Oh boy. She didn’t get her usual nap and had reached that point of no return anyone who has ever had, or cared for a child knows about. Overtired. Yikes.
Feeding didn’t work, because she wasn’t having any of that. Changing her was a nice gesture, but futile in her mind. The pacifier didn’t work. Toys and books didn’t work, even though eating the book seemed to help for a few minutes. Her sister didn’t work. Her grandpa didn’t work. Her grandma didn’t work. Even her daddy didn’t work for a long time.
Then she finally ate, but still fought to stay awake. . . until she couldn’t keep her eyes open anymore. . . and then neither could he. The picture is grainy because I had to zoom further than I like, but by that point I did not want to wake either one of them up. I know better than to poke a sleeping bear and his cub. Great surprise visit.
