Every Child

Today I am grateful for every child.  I learned last night that a friend of a friend’s three- year-old grandson died in his sleep the other night.  I don’t know the details.  I don’t know the child.  I don’t know the parents.  I don’t know the grandma.  I don’t have to.  But I feel the pain. Bless his little soul and please God help his family and friends find a way to cope.  I honestly don’t know if I could recover from a loss like this.

I wrote this poem a long time ago when a child at a school where I substituted died.  Hug your children and grandchildren a little tighter today and be grateful for every minute. . .like I am.

EVERYONE’S CHILD

By Mary Mooney

Someone else’s child is always late.

Someone else’s child is best in sports.

Someone else’s child is the culprit.

Someone else’s child gets better grades.

Someone else’s child talks in class.

Someone else’s child sings the solo.

Someone else’s child sasses back.

Someone else’s child does their homework.

Someone else’s child is sick. . .

and dies

and becomes

everyone’s child.
